Since childhood, Matthieu Gauthier has connected with various forms of art to express himself through drawing. Later, he discovered painting during a trip to Poland and fell under the spell of this muse. His work is free of corrections, made visible by a mix of oil paint and lavender essential oil. The layers, especially the first ones, are diffuse, watercolor-like, and vaporous, capturing the pure essence of the animal, what could be called "the soul," before it appears in organic form with less diluted and thicker layers. The artist builds them up gradually, altering the dilutions, so his work becomes like a mirage, between appearance and disappearance—a beautiful representation of the condition of certain endangered species.
