Having lived in Brazil for over ten years, Ludovic Carème undertook the opposite journey of the people he photographed. He began by portraying the small favela of Água Branca in the heart of São Paulo and finished his journey in the Amazon, from where those once dreaming of happiness in the megacity had returned, disillusioned, to other favelas. His work includes portraits, views of the forest, direct accounts of deforestation, and small still lifes found inside homes.
