Haydn and Mozart were bound by mutual admiration. The Swiss conductor Marc Leroy-Calatayud presents Haydn's Symphony No. 55, posthumously subtitled "The Schoolmaster" for its surprising (and very imposing) Adagio. From the divine Amadeus, Claire Le Boulanger and Manon Louis, soloists from the Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est, shine in the miraculous Concerto for Flute and Harp. However, these two giants of the 18th century should not overshadow the great female composers of the Classical and Pre-Romantic eras. Maria Theresia von Paradis, to whom Mozart dedicated his Piano Concerto No. 18, left us vibrant and graceful music. Sophie Gail was one of the most popular opera composers in 19th-century Paris.
