Led by its new music director, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège undertakes a titanic work. Conductor Lionel Bringuier will first present the intoxicating Nuits d’été, in which Hector Berlioz sets Théophile Gautier’s poems in an incomparable instrumental setting. The great mezzo Stéphanie d’Oustrac will bring her storyteller’s art to these magnificent melodies. At age 28, Gustav Mahler was already fully himself in his Symphony No. 1, 'Titan.' The work opens with splendid calls of nature, marking the start of one of the greatest symphonic adventures in the history of music.
