A travelling exhibition conceived and curated by d-o-t-s (Laura Drouet and Olivier Lacrouts) and produced by the Bridderhaus (Esch-sur-Alzette). What is soil? What lies beneath its surface? Why should we care about its health? Earthbound. Worms, Soil, Decay invites visitors to discover the world beneath our feet, its complexity, dynamism and ecological importance. Often seen as inert and passive, soil is a living whole. Decomposition plays an essential role in regenerating organic matter and maintaining the balance of the subsoil. Through decomposition, valuable nutrients return to the earth, nourishing plant life and initiating new life cycles. Without these cycles, entire habitats would collapse. Despite their crucial role, earthworms and other soil dwellers are endangered. Human activities such as intensive agriculture, the use of pesticides and fertilisers, and soil sealing are causing a rapid and ongoing decline in soil biodiversity. Viewing the underground world as a mere resource is a major issue that must be challenged. The artists and designers featured in this exhibition draw attention to the health of underground life, which is intrinsically linked to life on Earth. Their works encourage active participation in preserving and regenerating soils. The first iteration of this exhibition was held in 2025 in collaboration with Aglaë Miguel, Vincent Orts and Dano Zoutman.
